This power catamaran day trip, which combined pink dolphin spotting with snorkelling at Koh Tan and Koh Madsum (Pig Island), isn’t operating at the moment. Below is a practical guide to seeing the Koh Samui pink dolphins, and the other ways you can still visit these islands.

Koh Samui pink dolphins: where to see them
The “pink dolphins” are Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins. Adults become pale grey to pink as they age. Near Koh Samui, they’re most often seen along the Khanom coast on the mainland, south-west of the island. Day trips from Samui cross to that stretch of coast to look for them. They’re wild animals, so sightings aren’t guaranteed, and the best operators keep their distance and don’t chase or feed them.
Koh Tan and Koh Madsum (Pig Island)
- Koh Madsum, better known as Pig Island, is a small island off Samui’s south coast with a white-sand beach and a family of free-roaming pigs. A small landing fee is usually charged.
- Koh Tan is a quiet, low-lying island next door. It has a long beach, a fringing reef for snorkelling and a small village with coconut plantations.
- Both islands are short boat rides from Samui’s south coast, so they’re easy to combine with dolphin spotting in one day.

Tips for a pink dolphin trip
- Mornings usually have the calmest sea, which makes dolphins easier to spot.
- The Gulf of Thailand has a different weather pattern from Phuket. The roughest seas around Samui are usually from about October to December.
- Bring sunscreen, a hat, a light rain jacket, and cash for island fees and drinks.
- Don’t feed the pigs or the fish, and keep a respectful distance from the dolphins.
