This late-start Phi Phi day trip uses a two-storey premium speed catamaran instead of a standard speedboat. You get a later hotel pickup, a smoother and roomier ride, and a full loop of the Phi Phi highlights: Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach and an afternoon on Bamboo Island. It suits travellers who don’t want a 7am start but still want to see the famous spots.
Updated October 2026 by the Phuket Dream Company team (TAT licensed).
Highlights
- Later pickup from most Phuket beach areas (see the pickup table below for times).
- Two-deck speed catamaran: more space, shade and seating than a typical speedboat.
- Maya Bay, the beach made famous by the film The Beach.
- Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave and Monkey Beach.
- Lunch at Ton Sai Bay on Phi Phi Don.
- Free time to swim and snorkel at Bamboo Island.
Premium speed catamaran vs speedboat: what’s the difference?
A speed catamaran has two hulls, so it sits more steadily in the water than a single-hull speedboat. It is wider, with an upper deck, more shade and more room to move around. That usually means a more comfortable ride for people who worry about seasickness or bumpy crossings. Speedboats are smaller and nimbler, with more frequent departures and lower prices. If comfort matters more to you than speed, the catamaran is the better choice.
What to expect
- Late-morning pickup from your hotel and transfer to the pier on Phuket’s east coast, with snacks and drinks on arrival.
- Cruise to Phi Phi on the speed catamaran.
- Monkey Beach on Phi Phi Don, with a snorkelling stop in the clear water nearby. Don’t feed or touch the monkeys.
- Lunch at Ton Sai Bay, Phi Phi Don’s main village, with time to stretch your legs.
- Maya Bay – boats moor at Loh Samah Bay and you walk across on a boardwalk. Swimming isn’t allowed in Maya Bay, but you can paddle at the water’s edge.
- Pileh Lagoon and Viking Cave – cruise into the emerald lagoon (swimming or paddle boarding when conditions allow) and pass the cave cliffs.
- Bamboo Island – a wide white-sand beach for swimming, snorkelling and relaxing in the afternoon light.
- Return to Phuket, arriving back at the pier by about 6pm, then transfer to your hotel.
The order of stops can change with tides, weather and national park rules.
Season notes
Maya Bay closes every year for about two months so the reef can recover. In 2026 it closed from 1 August to 30 September and reopened on 1 October. During the closure, tours still visit the other stops. From about May to October the southwest monsoon can bring rough seas, and trips may be changed or cancelled for safety.
Pickup and meeting point
Free pickup is included from the main beach areas, and some outer areas cost extra. Check the pickup tables below for times and charges. Our team will confirm your exact pickup time on WhatsApp the day before.
What to bring
- Swimwear, towel and a change of clothes.
- Reef-safe sunscreen, hat and sunglasses.
- Passport copy or photo ID (national parks may ask for it).
- Cash for drinks, souvenirs and any fees not included.
- Seasickness tablets if you are sensitive to boat travel.
Tips from our team
- Sit on the lower deck towards the back for the smoothest ride. The upper deck has the best views but gets more sun.
- Bring a dry bag for your phone and cash.
- Speedboat-type trips are generally not recommended for pregnant women or people with back or neck problems. Ask us first if you are unsure.
