This Ao Nang speedboat transfer takes you from Railay Beach or Ao Nang in Krabi across Phang Nga Bay to Bang Rong Pier on Phuket’s north-east coast. It is one of the quickest ways to travel between Krabi and Phuket, and you get a sea crossing past limestone islands instead of a long road trip around the bay. Tickets are for the shared Green Planet speedboat. A hotel drop-off in Phuket can be added.

Highlights
- Krabi to Phuket by speedboat in around two hours, rather than three to four hours by road
- Board at Railay Beach or Ao Nang. Railay can only be reached by boat, so this also saves you a longtail ride back to the mainland.
- Scenic crossing through Phang Nga Bay, via the Koh Yao islands
- Optional private car from Bang Rong Pier to your hotel anywhere in Phuket
How the Ao Nang speedboat to Phuket works
- Check-in: board at the Railay floating pier, or at Nopparat Thara Pier for Ao Nang. Times for each pier are in the schedule below.
- Transfer at Koh Yao: the boat stops at Koh Yao Yai, where you change to the speedboat for Phuket. Staff guide you between boats.
- Arrive at Bang Rong Pier, Phuket: the boat lands on the north-east coast of the island.
- Onward travel: if you booked a transfer, your driver takes you to your hotel. Otherwise, arrange a taxi at the pier.
Times can change with the season, the weather and sea conditions. The team will confirm your exact boarding time and pier when you book.
Railay transfer tips
- Railay East has a floating pier. Allow time to walk there with your bags from your resort.
- Keep luggage to a manageable size. Large or many bags may cost extra, and the team can confirm the allowance.
- Bang Rong is a long drive from the west-coast beaches. Booking the hotel transfer avoids haggling at the pier.
- From Ao Nang, leave enough time to get to Nopparat Thara Pier before boarding.
What to bring
- Passport or a photo of it, plus your booking confirmation
- A dry bag or plastic cover for small electronics
- Hat, sunscreen and water
- Seasickness tablets if you are prone to motion sickness
Frequently asked questions
How long is the speedboat from Ao Nang to Phuket?
The crossing itself is roughly one and a half to two hours, including the change of boats at Koh Yao. See the schedule below for departure and arrival times.
Where does the boat arrive in Phuket?
At Bang Rong Pier, on the north-east side of the island. It is not near Patong, Kata or Karon, so most travellers add the hotel transfer.
Is this a private or shared boat?
The ticket price below is for the shared speedboat. Ask our team on WhatsApp if you would like a private speedboat quote.
Can children travel?
Yes. There is a child rate for ages 3 to 11. Infants usually sit on an adult’s lap. Pregnant travellers and anyone with back problems should check with us first, as speedboats can be bumpy.
What happens if the sea is rough?
Boats may be delayed or cancelled for safety. If that happens, the team will contact you to rebook or offer an alternative.
Do you also run Phuket to Krabi?
Yes, there is a return direction. Ask the team for the Phuket to Ao Nang or Railay schedule.
Book online on this page. Our Phuket team confirms availability and stays in touch with you on WhatsApp (+66 95 038 5535) until you arrive.
