Bamboo Island Krabi: what it is like
Bamboo Island lies about 5 km north of Phi Phi Don and is part of Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park. It has no hotels or restaurants, only a long white-sand beach, casuarina trees and a ranger station, so it feels much quieter than Phi Phi Don. The water is shallow and calm in the high season, which makes it good for families and first-time snorkellers.
Itinerary of the Krabi speedboat trip
- 08:00–08:45: minivan pickup from your hotel (see the pickup table below) and transfer to the pier for a briefing.
- Bamboo Island: a 20–30 minute speedboat ride, then swimming, snorkelling and beach time.
- Viking Cave and Loh Samah Bay: sightseeing and another snorkelling stop beneath the cliffs of Phi Phi Leh.
- Lunch at Tonsai Bay on Phi Phi Don.
- Pileh Lagoon and Maya Bay (when open).
- Monkey Beach, then return to the Krabi pier around 16:00 and transfer back to your hotel.
The itinerary is approximate and may change with weather, tide and national park rules.
Maya Bay status
Maya Bay is open to visitors with limits: it closes every year in August and September to protect the bay, and it reopened on 1 October 2026. Swimming in Maya Bay is not allowed; you walk to the beach from the back of the island. During the closure or in rough sea the boat visits other stops instead.

- Swimwear, a towel and a change of clothes.
- Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
- A waterproof phone pouch.
- Cash for the national park fee (not included; see the note below), drinks and souvenirs.
- Seasickness tablets if needed.
Tips from our team
- Bamboo Island is quietest in the morning, which is why this trip goes there first.
- Do not feed the fish or the monkeys; both are banned in the park.
- Bring your passport copy or ID for the national park checkpoint.
- The sea is calmest from November to April.
