*We regret that this trip is currently unavailable.*

A Koh Sri Chang island tour makes a relaxed day trip from Bangkok or Pattaya: a short ferry ride from Sriracha in Chonburi to a small island with a royal summer palace, hilltop temples, sea views and fresh seafood. The private tour on this page is not running at the moment, but here is a practical guide to visiting Koh Sri Chang (also spelt Koh Si Chang), and our team can arrange a private day out with a car and driver.

Where is Koh Sri Chang?

Koh Sri Chang lies off the coast of Sriracha in Chonburi province, between Bangkok and Pattaya. It is small (around 8 square kilometres), has no tourist resorts on the scale of Pattaya, and feels like a quiet Thai fishing island. From central Bangkok, allow up to 2 hours by road to the pier, depending on traffic.

How to get there

  • To Sriracha: by private car or taxi from Bangkok or Pattaya, or by bus from Bangkok’s Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai).
  • Ferry: passenger boats leave from Koh Loi pier in Sriracha. The crossing takes about 40 minutes, with boats roughly every hour in high season and less often in low season.
  • Last boats: the last ferry back to the mainland usually leaves in the early evening, so plan your day around it.

What to see on a Koh Sri Chang island tour

Phra Chudadhut Palace

The former royal summer palace built in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in the 1890s. The main teak residence was later moved to Bangkok, but the gardens, ponds, walkways and restored buildings by the sea are still lovely to wander around.

Wat Tham Yai Prik

A meditation temple set into limestone caves on the hillside, with views over the island and the shipping lanes.

The Chinese shrine and viewpoints

A colourful Chinese shrine near the harbour, with a long flight of steps leading to a shrine holding a copy of the Buddha’s footprint. Khao Noi and Chom Kao Kard are good spots for panoramic views and sunsets.

Hat Tham Phang beach

The island’s main beach for a swim, with deckchairs, kayaks and simple restaurants. It gets busier at weekends with visitors from Bangkok.

Getting around the island

Private cars are not allowed for visitors, so most people use the island’s own three-wheeled “skylab” tuk-tuks, which can be hired for a round-island tour. Scooters can also be rented.

Tips

  • Go on a weekday if you can; weekends are busier.
  • Dress modestly for the temples and the palace grounds (shoulders and knees covered).
  • Try the seafood: squid, crab and prawns are local favourites.
  • Bring cash, as small shops and tuk-tuks rarely take cards.

FAQ

Is this Koh Sri Chang tour available?
Not at the moment. Message our team on WhatsApp and we can arrange a private car to Sriracha or suggest a similar day trip.

How long does the ferry take?
About 40 minutes from Koh Loi pier in Sriracha.

Can I visit Koh Sri Chang as a day trip from Bangkok?
Yes, but it is a long day: up to 2 hours each way by road plus the ferry. Start early.

Is it good for swimming?
Hat Tham Phang is the best beach for a swim. The island is better known for its history, temples and views than for its beaches.

Do I need a guide?
Not necessarily. Skylab tuk-tuk drivers know the main sights, but a private tour saves you arranging transfers and ferries yourself.
