If you’re concerned about the ethics of elephant trekking in Thailand but still want to bond with these gentle creatures, then our Phang Nga Elephant Sanctuary day trip is for you. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with a friendly and well-cared-for elephant while feeding, bathing and playing with them.

Picture yourself soaking wet and covered in mud after a “spa” with your new elephant friend and a guaranteed smile from ear to ear. This is how most of our guests find themselves at the end of this Phang Nga Elephant Sanctuary tour.

Located around 1.5 hours’ drive north of Phuket, the Phang Nga Elephant Park nestles in a remote forest and has been caring for elephants for more than 150 years. They have a wealth of knowledge to share with guests during their ethical elephant programs and the long trip to get there is definitely worth it!

Dressed in traditional mahout clothing, you’ll learn the secrets of elephant training before getting hands-on as you interact with an elephant. The Phang Nga Elephant Park is run like a typical rural village, with around 30 people living and working alongside the elephants. The welfare of the animals is paramount and they strive to offer a responsible tourism alternative to help protect Asian elephants.

Itinerary

After being picked up from your hotel around 07:30, you’ll be transferred to our camp at Anda Adventure in Phang Nga Province. En route, we’ll make a stop at the Monkey Temple Cave, which is named after the mischievous troupe of monkeys that patrol its entrance.

On arrival at the Phang Nga Elephant Park, you’ll have time to get changed before you start your mahout training. With the basics covered, you’ll be introduced to your elephant and learn about their lifestyle and behaviour as you begin interacting with them. Your trainer will talk you through what elephants prefer to eat as you prepare their lunch and feed it to them.

Then, it’s time for you to eat, with a traditional Thai lunch, fresh fruit, tea and coffee served. In the afternoon, you’ll be treated to a “mud spa” as you bathe with your new elephant friend. The rest of the day will be spent playing with your elephant and bonding with them before making the return journey from the Phang Nga Elephant Sanctuary to Phuket. We aim to have you back at your hotel between 17:00 and 18:00.

Please Note: The above itinerary is approximate only and may be modified at short notice due to local weather conditions.
