The Peranakan Museum Phuket, in Thalang, tells the story of Phuket’s Peranakan (Baba) community. These families blended Chinese, Malay and Thai culture during the island’s tin-mining era. We are not selling tickets for this museum at the moment, but this guide explains what you will see, where it is and how to fit it into your Phuket trip.

About the Peranakan Museum Phuket
The museum is in a modern building on Thepkasattri Road in Thalang, in the north of the island on the way to the airport. It is not in Phuket Old Town, so don’t confuse it with the smaller heritage museums there.
Inside you can expect:
- Models and displays of the Sino-Portuguese shophouses of Thalang Road and Dibuk Road in the Old Town
- Life-size room settings with traditional furniture
- Peranakan jewellery and the tools used to make it
- Rooms of colourful Baba wedding and festival clothing
- A photo studio where visitors can dress up in traditional costume
It is a compact museum, and visitors usually go round with a guide. It works well on a rainy day or on the way to or from the airport.
Food and drink
The museum complex has its own restaurant serving Phuket-style dishes, plus a café. It’s a good chance to try local Peranakan food such as moo hong (braised pork belly) or Phuket noodles.

Around an hour for the museum. Allow more if you plan to eat at the restaurant or use the costume studio.
Is it in Phuket Old Town?
No. It is in Thalang, in the north of the island, about 30 to 40 minutes from Phuket Town depending on traffic.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. Children usually enjoy the costume photos and the miniature street models.
Who are the Phuket Peranakans?
