This Maya Bay trip is a full day by speedboat from Phuket around the Phi Phi Islands, finishing at Bamboo Island. You see Maya Bay, the beach made famous by the film The Beach, snorkel in the clear water around Phi Phi Leh, have lunch on Phi Phi Don and spend the afternoon on the white sand of Bamboo Island. It is a premium daily tour with a maximum of 35 guests on board, and pickup is free from most areas of Phuket.

What to expect on the Maya Bay trip

1. Pickup: between about 07:00 and 08:00 depending on your area (times below).
2. Phi Phi Leh: a speedboat ride of around 50 minutes, then Maya Bay, Loh Samah Bay, Pileh Lagoon and Viking Cave.
3. Snorkelling: time in the water around Phi Phi Leh and a stop at Monkey Beach.
4. Lunch: at Tonsai Bay on Phi Phi Don.
5. Bamboo Island: swim, snorkel or relax on the beach north of Phi Phi Don, then return to Phuket.

The order of stops can change with the tide, the weather and park rules on the day.

Maya Bay rules and season

• No swimming at Maya Bay: you can paddle in the shallows, but swimming in the bay is not allowed.
• Landing: boats moor at a pontoon in Loh Samah Bay on the other side of the island, and you walk a few minutes along a wooden boardwalk to the beach.
• Time limit: visits are timed, with roughly one hour on the beach per group.
• Annual closure: Maya Bay closes every year during the monsoon. In 2026 it was closed from 1 August to 30 September and reopened on 1 October. When it is closed, the tour continues around the other Phi Phi stops.
• Sunscreen: sunscreens containing oxybenzone, octinoxate, 4-MBC or butylparaben are banned in Thai marine national parks.

Pickup

Hotel pickup is free from Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Surin, Bang Tao, Laguna, Chalong, Phuket Town and nearby areas. A small extra charge applies for Naka Lay, Siray Bay, Layan, Rawai, Nai Harn and Cape Panwa. See the pickup tables below for times.

• Swimwear, towel and reef-safe sunscreen
• Hat, sunglasses and a light cover-up
• Cash for the national park fee if it is not included in your booking, plus drinks and souvenirs
• Seasickness tablets if you need them
• A waterproof phone pouch

Tips

• The sea is calmest from about November to April. In the wet season the crossing can be bumpy, so take a tablet before you board if you get seasick.
• Wear sandals you can walk in on the Maya Bay boardwalk.
• Do not feed the monkeys at Monkey Beach.

FAQ

Can you swim at Maya Bay?
No. Swimming in the bay is prohibited. You can walk on the beach and paddle at the water’s edge. Snorkelling takes place at other stops.

When is Maya Bay closed?
It closes every year during the monsoon, usually from August to September. In 2026 it reopened on 1 October.

Is the national park fee included?
Maya Bay and Bamboo Island are in a national park, which charges a separate entry fee. Our team will confirm whether it is included when you book.

How long is the speedboat ride?
Around 50 minutes from Phuket to Phi Phi Leh, depending on the sea.

Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes. There is a child rate for ages 4 to 11, and life jackets are provided. On rough days, a speedboat may not suit very young children or pregnant travellers.

How many people are on the boat?
A maximum of 35 guests, which is smaller than many standard Phi Phi speedboat tours.
