See Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island the local way: on a private luxury longtail boat with a Phang Nga crew who grew up on these waters. The boat leaves from Surakul Pier on the Phang Nga coast, an easy drive from Khao Lak. It is yours alone for a half-day or full day among the limestone karsts, mangroves and the stilt village of Koh Panyee.

Highlights
- Private luxury longtail boat – for your group only, with a maximum of 12 passengers. Prices are per boat.
- James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan and Koh Tapu).
- Koh Panyee, the Muslim fishing village on stilts, with its floating football pitch.
- Mangrove channels and the Tham Lot sea cave passage through the karsts.
- A crew who explain the bay, its villages and its wildlife as you go.
- Full-day option adds Samet Nangshe and Hong Phang Nga.
Choose your programme
- Half day (about 3.5 hours): Phang Nga Bay, Hong Phang Nga, Koh Panyee, James Bond Island and Khao Phing Kan.
- Full day (about 6 hours): all of the above plus Samet Nangshe, at a slower pace.
Boats depart in rounds from 09.30 onwards: 09.30, 10.00, 10.30, 11.00, 11.30 and 12.00. Choose the start time that suits you when booking.
Private luxury longtail boat vs big boat or speedboat
A longtail is narrow and sits low in the water, so it can slip into mangrove channels and get close to the karsts in a way big boats cannot. Because the boat is private, you decide how long to stay at each stop, and you can reach James Bond Island outside the busiest times. Big-boat tours suit people who want a buffet and toilets on board. Speedboats suit people who want to cover more distance quickly.
Getting to Surakul Pier
Hotel transfers are not included in the boat price. Car and minivan transfers from Khao Lak and Phang Nga can be added (see the transfer tables below). The team will quote them for your hotel. From Khao Lak, the drive to the pier usually takes around an hour each way.
What to bring
- Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses – longtails have only light shade.
- Light clothes, plus something to cover shoulders and knees at Koh Panyee.
- Cash for the national park fee if it applies, lunch or snacks at Koh Panyee, and tips.
- A dry bag for your phone and camera.
Tips from our team
- The earliest round (09.30) reaches James Bond Island before most of the big tour boats.
- Phang Nga Bay is sheltered, but heavy rain is common from about May to October. Bring a light rain jacket in that season.
- Longtails are not recommended for anyone with back or spinal problems, or for pregnant women.
FAQ
How much is a James Bond Island tour from Khao Lak?
This is a private charter priced per boat, not per person – see the rate table below. The more people in your group (up to 12), the better value it is.
How many people fit on the boat?
Up to 12 passengers.
Is hotel pickup included?
No. Transfers from Khao Lak and Phang Nga can be added at extra cost.
Can we have lunch at Koh Panyee?
Yes. The village has seafood restaurants, and lunch there is a highlight for many guests. Ask the team whether food is included for your booking.
Can I swim on this trip?
This trip is mainly sightseeing. Most of the bay has green, tidal water that isn’t ideal for swimming.
What if it rains?
Light rain is usually fine in the sheltered bay. In storms, the captain may delay or cancel for safety, and our team will help you rebook.
