Angthong National Marine Park is an archipelago of 42 islands about 30 km west of Koh Samui, with steep limestone peaks, hidden lagoons and quiet beaches. This full-day Angthong National Marine Park tour travels by big boat, which gives you a smooth ride, lunch on board and plenty of space to relax. It is a good choice for families, older travellers and anyone who prefers a slower pace to a speedboat.
Highlights
- Big boat from Nathon Pier, Koh Samui – stable and spacious, with lunch on board
- Emerald Lake (Thale Nai) on Koh Mae Ko, a saltwater lake surrounded by cliffs
- Wua Ta Lap viewpoint, with panoramic views over the islands
- Snorkelling and beach time
- Program B adds kayaking along the island coastlines and caves
What to expect on the Angthong National Marine Park tour
- Morning pickup from Chaweng, Choeng Mon, Bophut, Maenam or Lamai and transfer to Nathon Pier.
- Cruise of around 1.5 hours to the park.
- Koh Mae Ko: walk the trail (about 20 minutes) up to the viewpoint over the Emerald Lake.
- Koh Wua Ta Lap: snorkel from the shore, relax on the beach, or climb to the main viewpoint. The trail is steep, with ropes in places, and takes about 25-30 minutes up.
- Kayaking (Program B) around the islands and rock formations.
- Return to Nathon Pier in the late afternoon and transfer to your hotel.
When to go
The park is normally open daily, but it usually closes for a period in the north-east monsoon (roughly November to mid-December), depending on the weather. The calmest and clearest conditions are usually from February to September. If you are travelling in November or December, check with the team before booking.
National park fee
The tour price does not include the national park entrance fee, which is paid in cash at the pier. The fee is set by the Department of National Parks; at the time of writing it is 300 baht for foreign adults and 150 baht for children.
What to bring
- Trainers or sturdy sandals for the viewpoint climbs
- Swimwear, towel and reef-safe sunscreen
- Hat, sunglasses and a waterproof bag
- Cash for the park fee and drinks
Tips from our team
- Bring plenty of water for the Wua Ta Lap climb, and start early in the stop if you want to reach the top.
- Choose Program B if you like to be active; Program A is better for relaxed days.
- Keep valuables in a dry bag on the kayaks.
