Similan island tour from Phuket: what to expect
- Early pickup: from around 5.40am depending on your area, followed by the transfer to the departure pier north of Phuket.
- Speedboat to the Similans: the national park is about 60 km north-west of Phuket.
- Snorkelling stops: reef and fish at the islands chosen for the day’s conditions, usually including Koh Payu (Island 7) or Koh Ba Ngu (Island 9).
- Koh Similan (Island 8): the climb to Sail Rock viewpoint over Donald Duck Bay.
- Koh Miang (Island 4): lunch, beach time and swimming.
- Return to the pier and transfer to your hotel in the evening.
The national park decides which islands are open for landings, and the captain chooses the order of stops based on the weather and crowds.
Be ready for crowds
The Similans are the most popular island trip from Phuket in high season, and the main beaches get busy around midday. The park now caps daily visitor numbers, but if you are hoping for a quiet, empty island, this is not that trip. Choose late October, November or late April for a calmer experience.
