Phuket Adventure Whitewater and Bamboo Rafting Khaolak

Phang Nga white water rafting is the closest river adventure to Phuket: a short drive north into the green hills of Phang Nga province, where a fast river runs through the jungle. This full-day trip (tour code B3) combines a 5 km white water rafting run with a gentle bamboo raft ride and elephant activities, so you get both the adrenaline and the slower, scenic side of the jungle. Hotel pickup is included from most areas of Phuket.

What to expect

1. Pickup: early morning, between about 06:15 and 09:30 depending on your area (see the tables).
2. Drive to Phang Nga: the rafting area is on the mainland north of Phuket, a drive of around 1.5 to 2 hours.
3. Safety briefing: helmets and life jackets are issued and the guides explain how to paddle, sit and what to do if you fall in.
4. White water rafting: a 5 km run in rafts of a few people each, with a guide steering.
5. Bamboo rafting and elephants: a slower stretch of river on a bamboo raft and the elephant part of the programme.
6. Lunch and return: the team will confirm the exact order and finish time when you book.

Phang Nga white water rafting: how wild is the water?

The rapids in Phang Nga are fun rather than extreme and suit first-timers who are reasonably fit. The river level depends on the rain. From about June to October the water is higher and faster; in the dry months the river can be lower and gentler. In very heavy rain, rafting can be postponed for safety.

Who can join?

• There is a child rate for ages 4 to 10. The operator may set a minimum age for the white water section, so tell us the ages of children when you book.
• Not recommended for pregnant travellers or anyone with back, neck or heart problems.
• You do not need rafting experience, but being comfortable in water helps.

What to bring

• Clothes that can get wet, plus a full change of dry clothes and a towel
• Sports sandals with a back strap or old trainers; no flip-flops
• Sunscreen and insect repellent
• A dry bag or waterproof pouch for your phone, or leave it in the vehicle
• Some cash for photos, drinks and tips
