What to expect on the Phi Phi Island speedboat tour

The Phi Phi Islands lie about 40 km south-east of Phuket and 43 km west of Krabi. After hotel pickup you are taken to the departure pier on Phuket’s east coast for check-in and a briefing. The speedboat crosses to Phi Phi Leh, where you visit Maya Bay (on foot via the boardwalk; swimming is not allowed in Maya Bay) and Pileh Lagoon, followed by snorkelling stops. Lunch is on Phi Phi Don. On the way back, the boat stops at Khai Island, a small white-sand island just off Phuket, for a swim before returning to the pier. The order of stops can change with tide, weather and national park rules.

Maya Bay and national park rules

• Maya Bay closes every year in August and September for the beach and reefs to recover; it reopened on 1 October 2026.
• Visitors land on the back of the island and walk to the beach; swimming in the bay is not allowed.
• Feeding fish is banned at Khai Island and in the national park.
• A national park fee may be charged for Phi Phi. The team will confirm whether it is included when you book.

Pickup

Pickup is free from Phuket Town, Kata, Karon, Tri Trang, Patong and Chalong. Kamala, Surin, Bang Tao, Nai Harn, Rawai, Cape Panwa, Sirey, Nai Yang, Nai Thon, Layan, Mai Khao and Ao Po can be added for an extra charge. See the pickup times and prices in the tables below.

• A waterproof phone pouch.
• Cash for the national park fee (if not included), drinks and souvenirs.
• Seasickness tablets if you are sensitive.

• Sit towards the back of the speedboat for a smoother ride.
• The sea is calmest from November to April; in the rainy season the route can change.
• Speedboats are not ideal for pregnant women or people with back problems.
• Keep your passport copy or ID with you; the park may ask for it.

Can I swim at Maya Bay?
No. Swimming in Maya Bay is not allowed. You can walk on the beach and take photos.

Is Maya Bay open now?
Maya Bay reopened on 1 October 2026 after its usual August–September closure. Access can still depend on sea conditions.

How long is the speedboat ride from Phuket to Phi Phi?
Usually about an hour each way, depending on the sea.

Is lunch included?
Lunch is served on Phi Phi Don as part of the day programme; the team will confirm details when you book.
