SUMMARY:Phuket Old Town Festival
DESCRIPTION:When: Mid-February 2026 (likely February 13–15\, dates to be confirmed; noting 2025 likely just occurred)Where: Phuket Old Town (Thalang\, Krabi\, Dibuk\, and Phang Nga Roads) \n\n\n\nA Celebration of Phuket’s Rich Heritage\n\n\n\nThe Phuket Old Town Festival returns in February 2026\, turning the historic heart of Phuket into a vibrant cultural playground. Typically held mid-month\, this three-day extravaganza transforms Thalang\, Krabi\, Dibuk\, and Phang Nga Roads into walking streets. For instance\, locals and visitors mingle amid colorful parades\, live music\, and street food stalls. The event celebrates Phuket’s Sino-Portuguese heritage\, blending Thai\, Chinese\, and European influences into a dazzling spectacle. So\, if you’re in Phuket during this time\, prepare for an immersive journey through the island’s past\, brought to life with modern flair and festive energy. \n\n\n\nCultural Parades and Performances\n\n\n\nThe festival kicks off with a grand parade showcasing Phuket’s multicultural roots. Baba Peranakan costumes—think intricate beadwork and vibrant silks—steal the show\, while lion dances roar through the streets. For example\, Queen Sirikit Park on Dibuk Road hosts Chinese dragon dances\, their rhythmic movements mesmerizing crowds. Meanwhile\, stages along Thalang Road feature Thai classical dancers\, their graceful gestures paired with live traditional music. Street performers also entertain\, from jugglers to musicians playing the ranat ek (Thai xylophone). Additionally\, past festivals have themed each street—like “Stories of the Past” on Thalang—adding a narrative depth to the experience. Thus\, every corner offers a cultural surprise\, making it a feast for the senses. \n\n\n\nA Foodie’s Paradise\n\n\n\nFood takes center stage at the Phuket Old Town Festival\, with stalls lining the streets. You’ll find Peranakan-inspired dishes like pineapple fried rice and spicy dim sum\, reflecting Phuket’s fusion flavors. For instance\, vendors grill moo ping (pork skewers) and serve kanom jeen (rice noodles with curry) at budget-friendly prices. Meanwhile\, dessert stalls tempt with mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream\, perfect for cooling off in the tropical heat. The festival’s food scene isn’t just about eating—it’s about tasting history\, as many recipes trace back generations. So\, bring an appetite and dive into Phuket’s culinary heritage\, one delicious bite at a time. \n\n\n\nActivities for All Ages\n\n\n\nThe festival offers more than parades and food—it’s packed with activities for everyone. Rickshaw rides let you tour the Old Town’s pastel-hued shophouses\, while free boat rides along central canals offer a unique view of Phuket’s history. For example\, the Baba Light Show projects stunning visuals onto historic buildings\, blending tech with tradition. Kids can enjoy plaster painting or join the “Phuket Old Town Charm Discovery Challenge\,” a scavenger hunt with prizes. Meanwhile\, adults browse stalls selling batik fabrics and handmade crafts\, perfect for souvenirs. SUMMARY:Songkran (Thai New Year Water Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Updated October 2026 by the Phuket Dream Company team (TAT licensed). \n\n\n\nWhen: 13–15 April every year – Songkran 2027 falls on Tuesday 13 to Thursday 15 April 2027. Some areas start the evening before or carry on a day or two later.Where: All over Phuket\, with the biggest water fights in Patong (Bangla Road and the beach road) and gentler\, more traditional celebrations in Phuket Old Town. \n\n\n\nSongkran is the Thai New Year\, and in Phuket it means three days of joyful\, island-wide water fights\, temple visits and street parties. Whether you want to join the soaking on Bangla Road or see the quieter traditions in Phuket Town\, this guide covers what to expect at Songkran in Phuket and how to enjoy it safely. \n\n\n\nWhat is Songkran?\n\n\n\nSongkran marks the traditional Thai New Year. Water symbolises cleansing and renewal: families visit temples to make merit\, pour scented water over Buddha images and gently over the hands of elders as a sign of respect\, and ask for blessings for the year ahead. Over time this gentle sprinkling has grown into the famous nationwide water fight. Songkran is a national public holiday period\, and it falls in the hottest part of the year\, so a soaking is welcome. \n\n\n\nWhere to celebrate Songkran in Phuket\n\n\n\n\nPatong and Bangla Road – the most intense water fight on the island\, with music and crowds going late into the night. Great fun for adults; not ideal for small children.\n\n\n\nPhuket Old Town – a gentler\, more traditional atmosphere\, especially in the morning\, with temple activity and friendly water play. The best choice for families.\n\n\n\nKata and Karon – lively water battles from early afternoon along the beach roads.\n\n\n\nBang Tao and Laguna – more relaxed and less crowded.\n\n\n\nSoi Ta-iad\, Chalong – a busy\, younger crowd.\n\n\n\n\nSongkran etiquette\n\n\n\n\nNever splash monks\, and do not throw water over elders’ heads – wait to be invited to pour water over their hands.\n\n\n\nLeave babies\, people at work\, police on duty and anyone eating at a street stall alone.\n\n\n\nAim for the body\, not the face\, and use clean water.\n\n\n\nIf someone says “mai ao” (I don’t want it)\, stop.\n\n\n\nCover shoulders and knees if you visit a temple.\n\n\n\n\nSafety tips\n\n\n\n\nThe days around Songkran are among the most dangerous on Thai roads. Avoid riding a motorbike – use a taxi\, ride-hailing app or a pre-booked driver.\n\n\n\nKeep your phone and cash in a waterproof pouch and leave your passport in the hotel safe.\n\n\n\nWear dark or patterned clothes (white turns see-through)\, sunscreen and a cap.\n\n\n\nWatch out for pickpockets in crowds and do not accept drinks from strangers.\n\n\n\nAuthorities often tighten alcohol and traffic enforcement over Songkran – expect police checkpoints.\n\n\n\n\nPlanning your trip: flights\, hotels and tours\n\n\n\nSongkran is a peak travel time for Thai families as well as international visitors\, so flights to Phuket and hotels sell out and prices rise. Book flights and accommodation early\, and leave extra time to reach the airport\, as roads can be blocked by water fights. Tours and boat trips still run over Songkran; some private charters add a festive surcharge. Our team can arrange airport transfers\, private drivers and day trips around your plans. \n\n\n\nFrequently asked questions\n\n\n\nWhen is Songkran 2027 in Phuket?13–15 April 2027. Water fights may start on the 12th in some places and continue a little after the 15th. \n\n\n\nWhere is the biggest water fight in Phuket?Patong\, particularly Bangla Road and the beach road. \n\n\n\nIs Songkran in Phuket good for families?Yes\, if you choose the right area. Phuket Old Town in the morning\, Bang Tao and Laguna are calmer than Patong. \n\n\n\nWill I get wet just walking around?Almost certainly. Anyone on the street is fair game\, so carry your phone and money in a waterproof pouch. \n\n\n\nDo tours run during Songkran?Yes\, most day trips operate as normal. Book ahead\, as it is a busy period. \n\n\n\nCan you help with transport?Yes. Message our team on WhatsApp (+66 95 038 5535) for airport transfers or a private driver over the holiday.
